We know when things don't work well.  We can see our roads in disrepair, elders with insufficient healthcare, the danger that fire poses.  We can see the need to build trust in each other, to aid each other in times of need.  My wife and I are now more involved with the Tuolumne Proscribed Burn Association and see the deep impacts and stronger bonds grown from protecting one another's homes from catastrophic fire, for instance.

Tim McCaffrey and his campaign aren't just about policy to me, though his policies make a lot of sense, nuts and bolts that fit what people here need.

Tim asks the right questions and listens to what we tell him.  He's not perfect and I can tell he's learning fast.  Tim is more for me about character and commitment.  He's smart, invested in this place his whole life, dare I say wise, humble and strategic.  He has integrity at a time when most politicians just say what they think will play well in the media.  Tim will give the job of District 3 supervisor his undivided attention and I have big hopes for the kind of impacts he'll have as a result, because the current mess looks badly mismanaged and reactive to me.  Tim will start to plan ahead in ways that match our community's concerns.

I plan to vote for Tim and to support him as much as we can, as a small business owner and resident now for six years in District 3.  I'd encourage all of your readers to do the same.  This place is a blessing of natural splendor and we've made many local friends, but the possibilities are numerous and low hanging for improving everyone's lives, whether full time residents, tourists or long time visitors.

We need a new voice and Tim is the best choice to represent the people of Tuolumne County. He listens, understands the issues, and actually shows up. Too many politicians are disconnected from the people they serve. Tim is different.

It is an election year and soon we will be able to exercise our democratic privileges again! As early as June we can vote in the local elections, giving us an opportunity to shift the balance of the Board of Supervisors toward the priorities that matter most to us. One key issue is the disastrous decision made by three of the current board members to defund Cal Fire Station 56, putting our health and fire safety at risk. Not only does this jeopardize our safety, but our insurance companies will take notice, considering the area at higher risk and potentially raising our premiums. Thankfully, voters in District 3 now have the chance to replace one of those supervisors with a better choice: Tim McCaffrey, a man raised in Twain Harte who instinctively understands the challenges we face in this part of the county. Tim is a man of integrity, an entrepreneur with a flexible schedule who can dedicate himself full-time to serving us as a board member. He deeply cares about the community and will listen to our concerns. He will not use the office as a stepping stone to any higher political ambitions, does not have a personal agenda, and will make our issues his priority. So on June 2, please cast a vote for Tim McCaffrey to help bring about real change and get the person best suited for this important position. It is deeply concerning to see how some of our national leaders have normalized bullying and
openly abandoned democratic norms. Sadly, this troubling behavior is emerging locally as well. As we look to the future of Tuolumne County, we need leaders who are committed to restoring respect, accountability, and a sense of civility to public office.
When I met Tim McCaffrey at a small gathering in a friend’s home, what struck me most was his commitment to building community, honoring differences, and engaging others with a genuine desire to understand. At a time when politics feels increasingly hostile, this approach is not just refreshing—it is essential for civic engagement. Tim is candid about not having every answer to the complex issues facing our county. What he does have is a commitment to doing the work to address them. As he said when he announced his candidacy, “I’m running to serve as a full-time supervisor who is prepared for every board meeting, who truly listens to the people of District 3, and who works across divides to deliver results.”
Tuolumne County faces serious challenges, and I don’t want the leaders representing my
interests to be reactive, dismissive, or divisive. I encourage you to visit www.timfordistrict3.com to learn more about Tim McCaffrey’s values and priorities—and to show up to vote for a leader who will listen carefully, work hard, and act in the best interests of Tuolumne County residents.

I am a long-time resident of Twain Harte. I was a teacher for 30 years here in Tuolumne County. I have known Tim McCaffrey for many years. Our families were acquainted from way back, and our fathers had a monthly lunch which they attended together with mutual friends. Tim and I raised our kids together at Dodge Ridge and Twain Harte Lake, where they all eventually became lifeguards together. We are so lucky to live in such an idyllic paradise.
I first really got to know Tim when he was my editor for the Twain Harte Times, which eventually became the Sierra Mountain Times. I wrote a column about the night sky called “Nan at Night.” Tim ‘made’ this paper! He was always so positive and enthusiastic. Every time I walked into the office, he was like a shining light, full of energy. I know Tim will bring this positivity and enthusiasm to our Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors. His knowledge of technology and skills in working with people are exceptional. But probably his most important trait he brings forward to this position is his absolute love and knowledge of our community and the people who live in it. I know that I can pick up the phone at any time, and Tim will be there! He cares so much about this amazing county we live in. He has combed it from the mountain tops to the backcountry to the liveliness of our towns, playing his music and bringing joy wherever he goes.
I hope that you will join me in supporting Tim McCaffrey for Supervisor in District 5. We need his knowledge, enthusiasm, and love for our community to guide us forward. Please vote for Tim! And, if you are able, pick up the phone and contribute or volunteer to help us get this awesome candidate elected!

As a registered Independent Voter, and a fellow rural Tuolumne County citizen for nearly sixty years, I strongly urge you to get to the 2026 election polls and vote for Tim McCaffrey to be our District 3 Supervisor. Although there are always many sides to any issue, Public Safety and Fire Protection are of the utmost concern and importance. But, the recent actions by three of our Board of Supervisors to close the Mono Vista Fire Station is indefensible. District 3’s Mr. Kirk and the other two Supervisors have turned their backs on all of us by their action. And, by their own reasoning, solely to balance a budget at the expense and peril of Tuolumne County businesses, homeowners, and residents. There have been previous actions of Mr. Kirk that I have questioned, but his decision to vote for closing Mono Vista Fire Station is in itself enough to demand a change of leadership for District 3. While the Supervisors had much time to address the Fire Station funding issue in advance, they took no definitive action. A complete failure of leadership and betrayal of residents. Meanwhile, candidate Tim McCaffrey has put forth suggested actions that prioritize citizens safety and well being, not only for the Mono Vista station, but other issues as well. We need new leadership for District 3 that prioritizes decision making on community input, discussion, and research, not dogma. Let's join with Tim McCaffrey as citizens working together thoughtfully to solve our communities issues and challenges. Vote Tim McCaffrey, for a full time District 3 Supervisor.

  • — Laurie Sylwester

Tim has energy, engagement, and action. He is actively involved in the community and committed to making Tuolumne County better for everyone. Tim has clear communication and a heartfelt commitment to community. He listens, engages, and takes action.

  • — Joshua Turner

I’m honored to endorse Tim McCaffrey for District 3 Supervisor. He brings intelligence, compassion, and real-world experience to leadership.

As we are all painfully aware there is a rip in the fabric of our Democracy. Daily we read
example after example of the malignant corruption in our government being committed by
the very people who were voted for, by us their constituents, into positions to enhance,
protect, preserve, and manage our form of government at all levels – local to national. To
reset those values and get our government back on track, we must examine the values and
character of the people we chose to lead us. That said, we need elected officials who are transparent, objectively engaged in the community and who have no personal or special interest agenda that does not benefit all our residents. Tuolumne Co. has an opportunity in the upcoming election to elect a man who does embrace the values of good character and the desire to provide strong and bipartisan leadership for all of Tuolumne County residents – not just District 3. As a lifelong Tuolumne Co. resident, land owner and ardent observer of politics, I sincerely support and endorse Mr. Tim McCaffrey for the position of District 3 County Supervisor. Tim has the tools to help mend the rip in the fabric of democracy.

  • — Hoyt Cory

We need clear, independent thinking with a commitment to people over the long run. Tim is conscious, committed and caring - all great qualities for community service.

  • — Tom & Ellen Beck

Tim is a long time resident and business owner in our county. He is well informed about community needs regarding fire protection, law enforcement, housing, the business climate and recreation needs. Tim will place the welfare of Tuolumne Country residents above politics.

  • — Daniel O'Connell

Tim is a local with roots in this community and I sense his commitment to study and forethought in addressing the health and welfare of the citizenry of Tuolumne County. He’s a creative and compassionate leader whose shown his competence and vision for stronger community.

  • — Domenic Torchia

It would be easy just to say he is not Kirk. But there is more to Tim than just not being an anti-democracy - pro family guy. Let me just say that Tim is the type of Supervisor that we need to solve our problems vs what we have now in Supe D-3. We need Tim now in Tuolumne County.

  • — Christine Abbot

Tim McCaffrey, a lifelong resident of Tuolumne County, has dedication, innovative ideas, and a deep commitment to better our community. He is open, honest, dedicated, and always ready to listen to o the concerns of our citizens. Tim McCaffrey is the change our community needs!

  • — Carol Butler

I have known Tim McCaffrey most of his life. Over the years Tim has grown into a strong, intelligent and passionate about everything he tackles. His love of Tuolumne county is ongoing. He tackles every obstacle calmly and very professionally. There is very little that comes Tim’s way that he cannot make something good happen with it as he is solving all the problems. Tim would be such an asset to this position. I have worked with several elected officials over 35 years and by far Tim would be an outstanding candidate and elected official. I asked for your support of Tim McCaffrey in this election.

  • — Mary Whitehead

Looking for positive leadership for all. I believe Tim can make a difference!

  • — Jana Bumgarner

Having known Tim McCaffrey for 30 years, I’ve seen firsthand his deep love for our community. His character, leadership, and dedication to helping others make him someone who will truly serve our community with excellence.

  • — Tamara Hall

Anyone who has lived in Tuolumne county for any amount of time knows the Mcaffrey name and of the good people behind the name but it was the article Tim wrote on decency in politics that confirmed my vote. We need someone who puts the issues our county is facing as the number 1 priority. We also need a supervisor who will listen and respond even if he doesn't agree with you. I feel Tim Mcaffrey IS that person.

  • — Sandy Guitelli

Tim offers a fresh voice of reason to this BOS that has lost its transparency. He also offers hope for reopening the fire station that was closed at the beginning of fire season. He is not being investigated for numerous abuses of his position on the BOS. Nor is he mixing politics with his religious beliefs.

  • — Barb Dresslar

In the old saying, ‘Log it, graze it, or let it burn’, Anaiah Kirk jumped to ‘let it burn’ when he voted to close the Mono Vista Fire Station which has 1,188 fire calls a year.  Anaiah forgets that fire commonly spreads at an acre a minute, so fire fighters delayed by coming from a distance are fighting a raging wildfire instead of a spot fire.  He also forgets that the mainstays of Tuolumne’s economy are logging, high-country cattle grazing and recreation. The Mono Vista Station responders fight fires in the most rugged and difficult to contain areas in our county to protect Anaiah’s neighbors and their homes.  Anaiah, our HALF-TIME supervisor, should reflect on his equally half-baked choices, and reconsider that fire is the constant threat that severely costs our community in jobs, property and lives well beyond what is saved by closing this fire station.  We need Tim McCaffrey, who supports local fire responders at the Mono Vista Station, for our Supervisor.

  • Thomas Beck

Please vote for Tim McCaffrey for District 3 County Supervisor in the coming election. Tim’s love for our county and his fitness and qualifications to serve on the Board of Supervisors are impressive

Tim intends to do all he can to provide resources for fire and other emergency preparedness, empower small businesses to be successful, address the needs of our senior citizens, maintain our library system, and in general conduct the business of the Board in a manner that is fully transparent and includes the sentiments and input of his constituents. Tim is committed to being a full time Supervisor, coming to all of the meetings of the Board fully informed and prepared to discuss issues in public before making a decision or taking a vote. As a small business owner he understands the challenges small businesses face.

The county fire station in Soulsbyville is a second responder to my neighborhood. I am unhappy that the current board has voted to close that station. Tim understands the importance of county fire resources for providing emergency assistance and will not be voting to close any of our fire facilities. With soaring home insurance rates and increasing fire danger that is the last thing we need.

With all the issues facing the county, it’s time for a full time supervisor with the temperament and qualifications of Tim McCaffrey. Tim will place the needs of the community first and politics last.

We deserve better. Vote for Tim McCaffrey.

  • — Kim Baker

I have had the opportunity to work with Tim McCaffrey with several non-profit organizations over the years, and I was glad to hear that he is running for District 3 Supervisor.

In my 20+ years in Tuolumne County, I’ve worked with various members of the Board of Supervisors, as a citizen, and as a public land manager for a state agency.

I have observed that the most successful supervisors have been those who prioritize local needs over political agendas.  Those who recognize that we may vote for different candidates at the state and national level, but we share mutual respect for each other and our community and adherence to party platforms doesn’t always work well when distilled down to address local issues.

Local leadership requires a lot of listening and understanding.  I believe it takes compassion, consideration and a true respect for all of our neighbors to make difficult decisions and find creative solutions.  I see those qualities in Tim McCaffrey.

Tim has deep roots in the community and has shown he understands that listening is a key part of being a good leader.  I’m endorsing Tim for District 3 Supervisor.

  • — Janet Telford

I retired to Twain Harte 14 years ago, following a long career in the nonprofit sector. I stayed at McCaffrey House multiple times while my home was being renovated and met Tim McCaffrey during those early years. My life, since retirement, has been filled with volunteering and learning all I could about my new community. And it seems that Tim was always nearby. Advising on an occasional house problem, donating his time to perform at nonprofit fundraisers, and sharing the tradition of an annual “All McCaffrey” holiday meal at my home.

In recent years, our conversations turned to concern about our beloved county. The absence of leadership, the lack of positive decision making, and the cascade of staff who seem to be leaving government service. And, at least in District 3, the concern about a Supervisor with time limitations due to his other full-time job - limiting his ability to talk with constituents and attend the many meetings that may seem unnecessary but serve to educate and inform our public officials.

I was thrilled when Tim announced that he would be running for District 3 Supervisor. His creative problem solving will make our county stronger. His willingness (and availability) to listen to constituents will make our county wiser. And his unconditional love for the majesty of our magnificent mountain home will make Tuolume County a safer place for all of us.

I can’t help but wonder if the decision to close the Mono Vista Fire Station and terminate 6 full time firefighter positions would have been different, if Tim was our Supervisor.

Please join me in voting for Tim McCaffrey for District 3 Supervisor on June 2nd.

  • — Kate Sills

I live in Crystal Falls, and the Board of Supervisors just voted to close my fire station, even though our county ranks #1 in California for the share of homes at high wildfire risk.

During that same board meeting, Supervisor Anaiah Kirk admitted he'd used a break to "talk to staff about the budget." Being this unprepared for a decision with life-and-safety consequences is unacceptable.

Fire doesn't stop at district lines, and neither does the need for supervisors who take the job seriously. That's why I'm urging my neighbors in District 3 to vote for Tim McCaffrey.

Tim does his homework. He will meet with staff in advance, study the budget line by line, and walk into every vote already knowing what's at stake. He won't be changing his mind on the fly, because he'll have done the work long before the meeting starts.

That's the kind of representation Tuolumne County deserves. Learn more at timfordistrict3.com, and join me in supporting Tim McCaffrey.

  • — Myrna Doering

I am so impressed by Tim's knowledge of local issues and his thoughts on solving our most plaguing problems. It is obvious that he cares deeply for the county and the people in it by the way he listens, communicates and supports local businesses and events. He has demonstrated the skills to bring people together which is so needed at this time. A nation divided is in peril and that is true on a local level as well. For a time last year our Board seemed to be working well together and I was so proud of them. They seem to have lost their way and I believe electing Tim McCaffrey Supervisor for District 3 will be a giant step in bringing some cooperation for better results in decisions made by our Board. Please cast your vote for Tim!
